I bought the \'Biffy\' strat from Dolphin in early November 2009, & it arrived well packaged within two days of ordering over the phone. Full marks to Dolphin for speedy service with free delivery. It is a good quality guitar & exceptional for a Squier, which is normally considered to be the budget end of the market. The Fiesta Red colour is 90% there compared to the Fender USA & Mex versions, & just seems a fraction Redder, but nothing to worry about. The Mint Green scratchplate & the \'discoloured knobs & pickup covers look very effective, & the tinted varnish on the Headstock & neck looks good. The Alnico pickups measure from 6.1K at the bridge to 5.6K at the neck & are good \'Vintage\' Strat sounding units. The cheap area is really the Trem block, which is very thin & made from the usual Far East cheap moulded alloy, & is working the Trem arm loose already after only two weeks. The bridge unit itself is not bad quality, & it sets up nicely with a good action. I shall have to replace the Trem block, however with a decent thick steel block. Overall it\'s a great guitar for the price, & preferable over even the Fender Mex Standard series. Great value for money.
Simon Neil and James Johnston sit down with Neil Whitcher from Fender UK and Total Guitar magazine to talk about the new Squier signature Stratocaster and Jazz Bass based on their Custom Shop relic ‘number one’ models
Biffy Clyro are a band who've been on the way up for a while. Their fifth studio album, Only Revolutions, due for release on November 9th, is set to turn them into even bigger stars. And Squier By Fender thought guitarist Simon Neil and bassist James Johnston deserved their own signature instruments.
